Aloha,

The Monterey Salsa Freestyle Championships start tonight!!! 
Our first QUALIFYING ROUND will take place this evening,
Friday, August 22nd at El Palomar Restaurant at 724 Abrego Street
in Monterey, CA. The contest will start after Broken English's
first set.

ENTERING THE CONTEST
If you intend on competing in this round, please show up to the
party tonight with your partner and sign in at the front. If you
do not have a partner, we will make a list of competitors each
night that do not have partners.

We will introduce you to the other partner-less contestants, and
you will be free to choose a partner to compete with. If you do
not compete tonight, there will be additional qualifying rounds in
the next few weeks.

ADVANCING TO THE FINALS
Winners of the qualifying rounds will be placed into the
Championship Bracket, where they will compete for $500, their name
on the Trophy of Champions, and the title of Monterey Salsa
Freestyle Champion.

If you do not win tonight,  you are free to re-enter the competition
in one of the later qualifying rounds. But once the championship
brackets are set, the competition will be closed to new contestants.

CONTESTANTS GET IN FREE
All contestants will GET IN FREE to El Palomar. If you don't have
a partner, you will have to pay to get in, but we will refund your
cover once you find a partner to compete with. Couples that advance
into the later rounds will continue to get in FREE until they are
eliminated from the competition.  The CURRENT CHAMPIONS will GET IN
FREE until they lose their title.

Monterey Salsa Freestyle Contest is now in EFFECT! This contest is designed for one thing... to find the best dancers in the 831. Period.

Having seen and judged tons of other contests, we have created a set of rules guaranteed to provide maximum excitement and to find out who REALLY is the best in the 831. This contest is not only going to be more FAIR than traditional contests, it's going to be way more suspenseful. So how does it work? Let's find out...

YOU PICK YOUR PARTNER
You will need a dance partner. If you have one, cool. If not, we'll try to help you find one.

WE PICK THE MUSIC
We want to find the best dancers, not the best choreographers. And, real dancers can rip to ANY music. So, on the day of the contest, we will select the music that you will dance to. You will not know in advance what your song will be. You will just have to be ready to rip to whatever comes on. This will filter out the REAL salseros from the imposters.

CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKETS
Instead of the traditional format of all the couples dancing at once, we will be setting up brackets like a real tournament. The tournament will be single elimination, and couples will compete heads up until a winner is crowned. More below...

TWO PAIRS ENTER, ONE PAIR LEAVES
That's right, we gettin Thunderdome on this!!!  When it is time to compete, the competing couples will step on the dance floor. Neither couple will know what the song will be. Once the song starts, both couples will start dancing. When the song ends, a winner will be selected. One couple will advance in the tournament, the other will be eliminated.

$500 CASH PRIZE. WINNER TAKE ALL.
The winning couple will receive $500 cash and the title of "Monterey Salsa Freestyle Champion." There will be no prizes for any of the losers.

Our team has been hard at work promoting on the streets, radio, classes and with "Random Acts of Salsa," and our hard work has really paid off.
For the past few months we've gathered people from all over the Bay Area at El Palomar Restaurant for our Slammin' Salsa Fridays, and the response and positive feedback are fantastic.

Yeah! Mambo Tropical helped us kick off our first Slammin' Salsa Friday and we're bringing 'em back to El Palomar Restaurant, to serve up a second dose of hot salsa infused with fluid flute sounds, smooth brass, melodic keys and aggressive Afro-Cuban percussive beats.

Salinas Valley Car Show Saturday May 10th

It's ON! Monterey Salsa has been invited to perform at the First Annual Salinas Valley Car Show, and WE ARE TOTALLY EXCITED!
There's going to be entertainment for the whole family,like a peting zoo for the kids, jump houses and more; plus tons of cool cars and bikes, contests, raffles, and of course SALSA dancing!
This will be a great event for everyone. The event goes from 9:00 am -4:00 pm. at the Monterey County Sheriffs Posse Grounds
395 Old Natividad Rd. in Salinas.
Admission $2 with $1 from every admission going to Cancer Research

Two Winners Selected!!!
Last night at the opening round of the Monterey Salsa Freestyle Championships, two winners were chosen from a field of eight.

The first half of the contest saw Fernando and Terry advancing to the championships bracket, while Anthony and Ariel won the second half, securing their spot.

The energy was incredible! We have some photos and (hopefully) video of the contest that we will try to get up ASAP. Stay tuned!
